Fun finds in Odessa, TX

On our last trip to Odessa I was shocked to make some new discoveries that I thought were awesome.

The first one is Shack in the Back. It is no longer what it was when I was in highschool. Now during the warm months it opens every Wednesday night. They have live music, a couple of bars, out door fire pits, pool tables. It is just an all around great hang. Probably the best hangout I have been to there ever.

The second one is a great little restaurant near Grandview and University called Mi Piaccia's. (sp?? something like that) It is bring your own wine, but you can also bring your own beer if you like. The food was awesome. It is what I would call Tex - Italian. Meaning there was jalapenos in my entree and my husband's entree as well.

things to do in Odessa, TX

Soon my family and I will travel once again to Odessa. We are from there and our parents and siblings still live there. We would probably live there too, but there is no military installations there! Growing up there I always heard people say that there is nothing to do there, but that isn't true. Here are a few things you can do if you live there or find yourself visiting there.

The Globe of the Great Southwest - The globe theater is a replica of Shakespeare's globe theatre. They put on many plays here and they also host a Shakespeare festival every year. For more info click here.

The Permian Playhouse - They put on a variety of plays and musicals throughout the year. Many years ago I saw Fiddler on the Roof here and it was very good. Click here for more info.

The Commemorative Air Force museum - includes planes from several foreign countries and other military conflicts since World War II. They host an air show every year. For more info click here.

Midland Rockhounds - They are the areas minor league baseball team. The games are very fun and kid friendly. They have a very nice playground for the kids. They do a great fireworks show for the 4th of July. For more info click here.

Odessa Jackalopes - They are the area's minor league hockey team. The games are kid friendly and fun. For more info click here.

Go golfing there are several courese in the area.
