Springs Preserve - Las Vegas

The Springs Preserve in Las Vegas is a learning center about various things in this area. I took the kids here last week. We did not take any of the hikes around the property and would like to go back and do those at some point.  Another thing I should have done was plan the day around the shows.  I would recommend planning to attend their shows they offer.  I think it would really add to the experience.

Here are some photos of our day there.

There is an area that is all about recycling and conservation. It covered recycling and how it is done and what different materials can be made into.  Why you should use certain types of light bulbs.  How electric and hydrogen cars work and more.

This was a small display in a corner on how storm water, toilet water and other waters get cleaned to be reused.

A ball area. I didn't not check to see what the point of their ball area was, but my kids had a lot of fun playing in it.

They have two playgrounds, but we only made it to one.  Here are some pictures of the playground we made it too.
There were areas to climb on that resemble the Valley of Fire and a sand area to play in.

This was a room where they explain why it floods so bad here in Vegas and the surrounding areas when it does rain.

And then there was a flood.

This thing they are standing on is about jellyfish and how their bodies balance. They are trying to achieve balance.

There was an extensive cactus garden.

I could tell that in the spring months the gardens would be much more extensive.  There were many labels out for plants that were not there.  It has been extremely cold here in Vegas this winter and I wonder if it killed many of their plants.  Also, there are few animals here.  I was under the impression from the website and the materials I had seen on Springs Preserve that there would be a lot of animals and there was not.  Maybe six animals.
