Aliante Station Pool

Aliante Station
Aliante Station - Hotel and Casino Pool
Aliante Station is a hotel and casino with multiple bars, restaurants, and a movie theater in North Las Vegas. They have a pretty decent pool here as well. I did not get any picture of the rooms here, but they are quite nice as well.

Red Rock Climbing Gym - Las Vegas

Red Rock Climbing Gym in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is home to several indoor rock climbing gyms including the Red Rock Climbing Gym designed by two of the best climbers in the world.

Here they offer both top-rope and lead climbing on over 8,000 square feet of climbing walls.

We took our kids to climb here on a Sunday during the kids 2 hour climb time.

A kid's day pass is just $10.00. They let our kids climb in their own shoes, otherwise we would have had to rent shoes for $5.00.

Our youngest was too short to climb.

What to Wear at Night in Las Vegas

What to Wear in Vegas

Have you ever wondered what you should wear when you go out dancing in Vegas? Over the last few years one of the most frequently asked questions I've gotten is: "What do I wear out while I am in Vegas?". Apparently this is something lots of ladies need to know, so I created this visual board to help you answer that question. I hope it helps. If your still not sure, just head over to Forever 21 and find something you like!

These are the types of dresses I saw the most on women while I lived there. Most women seem to wear black. Ultimately, I suggest you wear what you are comfortable in and what makes you feel good. If you feel good about how you look you will have more fun!

Achieving Balance during a Military Move

Join us Monday May 6 at 9:00pm EST on Twitter to chat about Finding Balance on the Road.  This twitter chat is sponsored by Marriott Residence Inn in conjunction with Travelingmom.com.  Follow hashtag #TMOM to join the conversation.

Achieving balance during a military move is always the impossible task. You've just spent days (more like months) planning, packing, cleaning, loading, out processing, collecting medical records, school records, and about a million other things. Once you've actually pulled out of the driveway and onto the road you are already beyond exhausted and have days of driving ahead of you.

When we moved 3,000 miles with 3 kids from Portland, Oregon to Panama City, Florida we had 9 days. I drove my mini van, my husband drove our Explorer and towed his 1968 Camaro, and my dad drove the biggest U-haul we could get and towed the largest trailer we could get.

The military move was already off to a bad start when we ran out of room in the U-haul and had to get a trailer the next morning, but I knew we had a nice hotel to look forward to as we headed toward Boise. We were staying the night at the Boise Residence Inn near the mall. We had stayed there the previous year on vacation, so I knew it was nice and the perfect place to stay during a military move.
2 bedroom suite

Like all Residence Inns it had

  • pool
  • hot tub
  • evening meals during the weekdays
  • hot buffet breakfast
  • free grocery shopping
  • fitness room
  • tennis court
  • basketball court
  • kitchen in your room

Even better is the room layout, always a suite. The 2 bedroom allowed us to sleep in one room, my dad in another room, and the kids in the living room. Ensuring that us drivers got a good nights sleep.

I got to the hotel hours before my husband and dad arrived. Instead of having to take the kids to eat when I'm tired by myself, we just relaxed at our hotel. We checked in and went to the complimentary evening meal, which included beer and wine. Afterwards I took the kids swimming. Swimming is the perfect way to burn off all the energy they had after sitting in a car for 6 hours and the hot tub was the perfect way for me to recuperate.
Residence Inn Las Vegas South Swimming Pool

The next morning we had a great breakfast and took the kids swimming again to burn off energy before another long car ride. We then headed out towards our next stop the Las Vegas Residence Inn. That's right we drove from one Residence Inn to another the entire trip, because they are always nice with the amenities we need. They also offer military rates.

Residence Inn has a new Family Travel Talk Forum on Facebook. It's a place where moms and dads can discuss family travel, finding balance and making memories. Here you can get advice on how to get the most out of your family vacation and tips for road trips with kids. It's a great resource for military families when they are planning a military move.

7 Delicious Family friendly restaurants in Las Vegas

Family Friendly Restaurants in Las Vegas

Las Vegas has tons of family friendly restaurants. Not only are these some of our favorite restaurants in Vegas, all of them are kid friendly. The first five are a must go on your next Las Vegas Vacation

Hash House a Go Go - This place serves twisted farm food in massive portions. It's fun and delicious.

Lotus of Siam - Best Thai food near the strip and the prices are reasonable.

Pink Taco - Hip restaurant inside of the Hard Rock serving excellent Mexican food at great prices.

Firefly - Tapas and drinks at cheap prices in a neat atmosphere.

Hofbrauhous - Fun, lively place where you get good German food and expect some sort of live entertainment.

Brio Tuscan Grill - In a nice setting with shopping near by. Great place for lunch.

El Segundo - Another great Mexican food restaurant in an awesome location on the strip.

Pink Taco at the Hard Rock hotel and casino

Pink Taco is best described with one word....wait for it.....Legendary!  It is by far the best Mexican food in Las Vegas, in the coolest atmosphere. (I should mention that I also think Super Mex and El Segundo could also be called the best Mexican food in Las Vegas.) Pink Taco is one of those places you always take out of town guests and should be on your short list of restaurants to go to when you are in Vegas.

It's not expensive, the atmosphere is awesome (You can tell from the pictures it is somewhat dark in the restaurant.) and the food is incredible. To start out you get chips with three types of salsa. The chips and salsa are complimentary. If you decide to order a pitcher of margaritas keep in mind two things. First the pitchers are huge, plenty for 4 - 5 adults. Second, they are pricey. I can't remember exactly how much, because the pitcher was huge, but I'm thinking it was fifty something dollars. I highly recommend ordering the pink tacos. They have lots to choose from on their menu, but these are tasty and unique. My friends hesitated from the description, but they loved them!

Bachelorette Party Favors

A few days ago I mentioned that I went to Vegas for my baby sister's bachelorette party. Since I'm her only sister and maid of honor I put the event together. I had these glasses done up (Holly at AllMyGoodness did them!) and made little survival kits. I just loved the way they turned out and wanted to share them with you.

Each person attending the Vegas bachelorette weekend recieved a personalized wine glass.

I also made up these survival kits for the party. In them is:
2 drink mixes
1 mini bottle of liquor
2 bandaids (for your feet after dancing the night away in heels)
1 granola bar
2 tylenol
Shout on the go wipes (Nobody wants to go with a stain on their dress)
2 sticks of gum
1 nail file

Last but not least I gave everyone a copy of A Reliable Wife, because you have to have a book to read at the pool!

Firefly Tapas restaurant -Vegas

Firefly has the best happy hour in Vegas and it might just be our favorite restaurant in town.  We've been to all of their locations and they are all wonderful. The location closests to the strip is at 3900 Paradise Rd. You will definitely want to eat here on your next Las Vegas Vacation.

Most of Firefly's menu consists of tapas, small plates.  Their bacon wrapped dates stuffed with cheese and almonds is to die for.  If for no other reason go here and eat them; you will thank me!
Firefly Tapas - Bacon Wrapped Dates
They have a variety of hot and cold tapas to choose from including the Spanish staple Patatas Bravas.  If you go during happy hour you can get half price pitchers of Sangria or Mojitos.  The pitchers are huge. Oh, and it's kid friendly.  My kids love it there, because they get to pick out  lots of things to try.  Usually a grilled brie sandwich with a cup of tomato soup.
