Conservatory at Bellagio decorated for Christmas

With each season the Bellagio hotel and casino in Las Vegas changes the decorations inside their conservatory. I always pop in here on my Las Vegas Vacation because it's always changing. Here are pictures of their Christmas decorations.

New Years Eve in Las Vegas

We currently live in Las Vegas  and we could not resist going out for New Year's Eve. We heard all the horror stories of how they block off the strip and close all the exits off of I-15 and you get stuck in traffic forever. Despite this we headed down there. We actually got down there quickly, but it took a while to get into a parking garage. We finally ended up in the Caesar's parking lot. They have a huge parking garage and we should have just gone there to begin with. We walked through Caesar's on the way to the Bellagio and they had random ice bars set up throughout. The ice bars were elaborate.

It didn't take us long to make it to the Bellagio, but we did stop out front to watch the water show.  Around 10:30 PM we went back out and watched another show.  This time it was a very long one, the longest I have seen there.  I assume they did this because it was New Years eve.

This is us inside the Bellagio. We did a tiny bit of gambling and of course lost!  It was very crowded and hard to get drinks, so be sure to start gambling near the area the waitresses come out of.

Here we are in front of the lounge we went to called Caramel inside the Bellagio. It was fun. They turned it into a kind of night club with a dj. They had a few party favors and covered the ceiling with balloons. It was so dark we couldn't get picture inside. The tickets were over priced and the drinks were insanely over priced. Although we had fun, we would not go again and would not recommend it. Their staff was incredibly rude. I watched some of the interactions the staff had with guests and I saw people get yelled at for no reason. I understand there are a lot of people out and the workers are probably uptight, but they were still awful especially when you factor how much money you are spending in there.

About twenty minutes til midnight we started to make our way outside for the count down and fireworks.

We could see fireworks going off at six different casinos.

14 Free Things to do in Las Vegas

There are many free things to do in Las Vegas and most of them are family friendly.   All of the free activities I am listing are fun for a Las Vegas Vacation family trip and absolutely free!  How's that for a inexpensive family vacation!

Mirage Aquarium - Located behind the front desk.  This 53 foot, 20,000 gallon, salt water tank features more than 1,000 animals representing 60 species from all over the world.

Tropical Rainforest - Located in the  Mirage in the front entrance.  A 100 foot dome with lagoons, plant life and a waterfall.

Mirage Volcano - Off on all every night between 7 PM and midnight flames and smoke shoot from the top of the 54 foot volcano.  There are burst of flames all over the lake there and some exotic music.

White Tiger Habitat - Siegfried and Roy's rare white tigers located in the Mirage.

Wild Life Habitat - Located at the Flamingo.  Full of lush foliage, flamingos, penguins, cranes, turtles, fish and lots of other birds.  The penguins are bed daily at 8:25 AM and 2:55 PM.

Lion Habitat - located at the MGM Grand.  (every time we have gone we have seen the lions, but we've never been lucky enough to catching a feeding time or trainer time)

Atlantis Aqurium - located at Caesars in the Forum Shops near the Cheesecake Factory.  This aquarium is full of colorful fish, sharks, and sting rays.  They are feed at 3:15 PM and 7:15 everyday.  In addition every hour the statues on top of the aquarium come to life.  This show has lights, fire and smoke.

World's Greatest Circus Acts - located at Circus Circus in the arcade.  From 11 AM until midnight every half hour is a circus performance.  You might see a trapeze artist, tight rope walker, jugglers, or clowns.  (These are always crowded)

Bellagio Fountains - Located in the lake in front of the Bellagio.  Mon - Fri from 3:00 PM - midnight and Saturday and Sunday from noon - midnight.  This show goes off every 30 minutes until 8 and then goes off every 15 minutes until midnight.  Watch the water dance to music.  You can see several different shows on the same day since they are constantly changing.

Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens - Located inside the Bellagio near the check in area.  Full of trees, plants, flowers, gazebos, bridges, ponds, and water features.  This area is changed often and is always quite nice.  It is a great place to take some pictures of your kids.

Ethel M Chocolate Factory - Located at 2 Cactus Garden Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89014.  You can take a self guided tour and watch the chocolate  from behind large glass windows.  Complete with free samples!(There is a near by is a very impressive cactus garden.)

Fremont Street Experience - Located in downtown.  This has a ceiling outside made of 12.5 millions lights.  On the screen they put videos to music.  (I feel like I can not describe this, but it is awesome)  There are also street performs, Elvis and other celebrity impersonators, spray paint artists and more.  My kids love watching the guy down there spray paint pictures)

M and M's World - Located in front of the MGM Grand near the coke bottle.  You can take your kids to the store or you can walk through their "factory" and watch a short 3D movie.  This is very fun for kids.

Bird Show - located at the Tropicana in the Tropics Lounge.  The birds perform tricks like singing, dancing, riding bikes, and flying through hoops for twenty minutes.  Open to kids everyday except Thursday.  Shows are at 11:30 AM, 1:30 PM,  and 2:30 PM.

Family Friendly activities in Las Vegas

Most people do not take their kids on their Las Vegas Vacation, but if you have to, like us you will find that there is a lot to do.  Vegas can be quite family friendly and some of the kid's activities are free activities!

You can find nice child care facilities called Kid Quest in many of the Station Casinos and the Palms.  I made it a point to go in and look at a few the last time we were there. They usually have a large facility with a separate nursery area. My kids love these places.

Fun things to do with your children in Vegas are:

*Take them to a show - some of the Cirque du Soliel are kid friendly. I took my kids to Mystere almost two years ago and they are still talking about it. There was nothing inappropriate in it. They loved the big guy dressed as a baby!  Many of the comedy and magic shows are also kid friendly.

*Arcades: almost every hotel has one. The one inside the Excalibur is huge and they also have a diner show kids enjoy. It is like Medieval Times.

*Take them to the putt putt.  There are several around.  There is a huge one in southwest Las Vegas.

*Go see the dolphin habitat at the Mirage

*Take them to the M and M Store. There they have a very creative walk through "M and M factory" on the 3rd floor

*Go to the pool. If your hotel pool isn't that great you can pay to go one that is, like the one at Monte Carlo or Mandalay Bay.  I found out just today that the Flamingo pool is open to the public after 2 PM.

*Circus Circus is a must, they have a great arcade, an amusement park, and circus performers every hour. If you decide to stay there I would ask for the new tower. My friends stayed in the older part and were not thrilled with the room.

*Water show in front of the Bellagio. They do the water show up nicely and change it all the time; you can see multiple shows in one day.  Also, at the Bellagio is their conservatory. The conservatory is always changing. It is fun to walk through and get pictures.  Both of these things are free.

Don't bother:
I also was very disappointed with the gondola rides at the Venetian.  It was a extremely short ride, not worth $10 a piece at all!
