Keller Fountain - Portland, OR

Portland, Oregon has amazing fountains and the best part is almost all of them are open to the public to play in for free. We make it a point to go play in a few of these every summer, because they are awesome. This one is Keller Fountain, right across the street from Keller Auditorium in downtown Portland, Oregon; and it is one of my favorite Portland fountains. Some of the areas are deep enough to swim in.

To get a solid idea of what kind of fountain this is check out the pictures. Keller Fountain in Portland, Oregon

OSU Hatfield Science Visitor Center - Newport, OR

OSU has an awesome free science center in Newport, OR located inside the OSU Hatfield Marine Science Visitor Center. They charge nothing for admission, but do accept donations.

It’s a small science museum, but they have packed in the hands on exhibits. The day we went there was an educational lecture on whales. They also have the Yaquina Estuary Nature Trail outside on the property that is open to the public from dawn to dusk. The trail is ½ mile paved and wheelchair-accessible.

Touch Pools

They had touch tanks full of fun sea creatures. Our kids spent most of their time here touching starfish and various anemones.

Pressman Toys - iPieces review and giveaway

Have you heard about the new interactive games that have come out for your iPad? Pressman Toys has come out with lots of interactive iPad games including the Fishing Game, Game of Goose, Snakes and Ladders, Air Hockey and iPieces Pool.

Recently, Pressman Toys was gracious enough to send me two games to try out, iPieces Air Hockey and iPieces Pool (Billiards).  My kids loved both games and I love the fact that they are playing a game I can play too. Even better for me the small pieces, it's going to be easy to pack for a road trip or even a flight with kids!

I was most excited to try out the iPieces Air Hockey game. I love air hockey and wondered how much fun it would be on the iPad. It is fun, but more challenging, because little circles float on to the screen with - or + signs. If you hit one you either gain points or lose points. You can be up by several points and instantly be tied or even behind. Check out this video to see how it works.
iPieces Pool (Billiards) is a little more straight forward. It's the same rules as regular pool.
iPieces are available for purchase at Toys“R”Us, Barnes and Noble, K-mart, Radio Shack, Learning Express, and BJ’s Wholesale Club stores nationwide.

You have a chance to win an iPieces game of your choice:   the Fishing GameGame of GooseSnakes and LaddersAir Hockey or iPieces Pool.

Dyker Heights Holiday Lights

Dyker Heights Holiday Lights Brooklyn, NY
If you plan on visiting New York City over the holidays, the Dyker Heights
Holiday Lights are a definite must-see!

Located in Brooklyn, Dyker Heights is a beautiful residential neighborhood and
these neighbors go all out for the holiday season. I've heard that some of the
residents spend up to $20,000 to have their light displays professionally done!
I've only been once, but rumor has it that they get better and better every year.
Dyker Heights Holiday Lights Brooklyn, NY
A lot of tourists miss out on this holiday treasure because it is lesser known
than your typical NYC holiday adventures or because they don't want to go out to
Brooklyn. Trust me, it's definitely worth the short trip! It's one of the most
awesome things I've ever seen.
Dyker Heights Holiday Lights Brooklyn, NY
The most amazing displays are located within the blocks of 11th ave to 13th ave and 83rd street to 86th street. The best time to go is at night of course and I would recommend giving yourself a couple of hours to see everything! They start turning the lights out around 9 or 10 so make sure you don't go too late! The nearest train is about a mile away so it's a good idea to drive if you can. The traffic can be a little hectic but it's not too hard to find parking on an off street like 10th ave or even as close as 11th ave. Parking is almost impossible within the streets of the biggest displays! Don't forget to bundle up and bring your camera!
For just $89.00, CityPASS offers a savings of 46% on 6 must-see New York attractions!
